Whilst the high level of fees surrounding football transfers is generally well-known it took me by surprise to read this week that Paul Pogba's agent allegedly made £41 million from the recent transfer to Manchester United.
I do wonder whether Mr Pogba considers that to be a fair sum? I expect that the legal sector for sports will continue to expand over the coming years as interest and sponsorship at the top of the game grows. It will be interesting to see whether there is an increase in demand for contractual provisions that seek to limit agents, whether third party ownership over players is an issue that is addressed further (say in governing articles) and indeed whether FIFA are an institution that can credibly make calls for transparency given their recent history and be listened to.
Fifa boss Gianni Infantino has called for more transparency around transfers.World football's governing body is looking into Paul Pogba's world-record transfer from Juventus to Manchester United. It follows claims that Pogba's agent will earn £41m from the deal.
