Whilst the article below sets out the continuing pressures on the Court as a result of rises in claims being issued/defended, it may be a welcome sight for landlord and tenants that lease renewal claims will be piloted in the First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber).  

The pilot is due to commence in early 2018 for a 12 month period with the aim of progressing all cases to a final determination within 20 weeks from issue. This is much shorter than the current average time of 56.5 weeks and if successful, could be a time and cost effective way to progress matters where you have a landlord/tenant who is reluctant to engage in the process.
